New York State PavilionDesigned by Philip Johnson -
Planting IvyI interviewed Philip Johnson, the architect of the pavilion, and asked him what it was like to have his own ruin. He said, "It's neat, but it's not much of a ruin because there's no ivy growing up the columns." So I went out and planted some, and it got up pretty high before the Parks Department cut it down. But it will be back - ivy is tough. -

Planted IvyWhen I spoke to Philip Johnson, architect of the N.Y. State Pavilion, I asked him what it was like to have his own ruin - he said it was "neat" and then added,"but there's no ivy growing up the columns." I then planted some at the base of several columns. Five years later, it had grown almost 50 feet up. -
